How to Export Your Code from Base44

The ZIP download and GitHub sync, the plan you need, what the export leaves out, how to save your data, and what running the code elsewhere really means.

The short answer: on the Builder plan or higher, open your app, click the More actions icon at the top right, choose Export project as ZIP, then Download ZIP. Or connect GitHub for a two-way sync. Either way the code still uses Base44 for data, logins and backend functions, so it's a copy of your app, not a way to move it off Base44.

These steps come from Base44's own help docs, checked on October 30, 2026. GenVibe, mentioned at the end, is our product.

Download your Base44 code as a ZIP

  1. Check your plan. Code export needs the Builder plan or higher ($50 a month, or $40 a month billed yearly) and edit access to the app. Use a computer: the option isn’t there in the editor on a phone.
  2. Open the app editor. Open the app you want to export in the Base44 app editor.
  3. Choose Export project as ZIP. Click the More actions icon at the top right and select Export project as ZIP.
  4. Download the ZIP. Click Download ZIP. You get the app’s current saved code as a React and Vite project.

To run it on your computer, unzip it and run npm install, then npm run dev. It will still talk to your live app on Base44 for its data.

Or sync your app to GitHub

GitHub sync also starts on Builder, and only the app owner can connect it:

  1. In the app editor, click Dashboard, then the GitHub icon at the top right, then Connect to GitHub.
  2. Click Connect GitHub, then Authorize Base44 Builder.
  3. Choose the GitHub account or organization and the repositories it may use, then click Install.
  4. Name a new repository and click Create Repository.

From then on every change syncs both ways on its own; there's no manual push. Changes you merge into the main branch show up in Base44, and you click Publish to make them live. One catch: after connecting, Version History can't go back to versions from before the GitHub connection.

What the export includes

Part of your appIn the export?
Front end (a React project built with Vite)Yes
Backend functionsYes
Table structure (fields and permissions)Yes
The data in your tablesNo: export each table as a CSV file
Your app's users and your secretsNo, they stay in Base44
Version historyNo, only the current saved code

To save your data, open Dashboard, then Data, pick a table, and choose Export from its More actions menu. Repeat for each table. The code plus the CSV files is a full backup of your app.

Can you run a Base44 app without Base44?

Not as it is. The exported code uses the Base44 SDK (it's in package.json) to reach your app's backend on Base44 for data, logins, backend functions and integrations. Base44 doesn't support self-hosting that backend. Base44's pricing page says nothing is locked to the platform, and you do own the code; but to run the app fully elsewhere you'd replace the database, logins and integrations with your own, and change the code that calls them. For a small app that's a rebuild of the data layer; for a big one, it's a real project.

If you're only exporting because the bill is too high, compare plans first in our Base44 pricing guide, or read how to cancel Base44 and what you keep on Free.

Frequently asked questions

Can I export my code from Base44 for free?

No. On the Free plan you can view your app’s code but not edit or export it. The ZIP download and GitHub sync start on the Builder plan, $50 a month or $40 a month billed yearly. Starter allows code edits but not export.

Does the Base44 export include my data?

No. The ZIP holds your frontend, your backend functions and the structure of your tables, but not the records in them, your app’s users, your secrets or your version history. Export each table as a CSV file from Dashboard, then Data.

Can I host a Base44 app somewhere else?

Only the front end. The exported code uses the Base44 SDK, so data, logins, backend functions and integrations still come from Base44 and use your live app’s data. Base44 doesn’t support self-hosting its backend; to leave fully you’d replace those parts with your own backend.

How do I connect Base44 to GitHub?

On Builder or higher, click Dashboard, then the GitHub icon at the top right, then Connect to GitHub. Authorize Base44 Builder, install it on your GitHub account or organization, and create a repository. Only the app owner can connect it.

Can I edit the code on my computer and send it back to Base44?

Yes. GitHub sync works both ways: merge your changes into the main branch and they appear in your Base44 app, then click Publish to make them live. The default branch must be called main.

Does Base44 own the code I export?

No. Base44’s pricing page says you own what you build, including the code and data. The catch is practical, not legal: the code is built to run on Base44’s backend.
