How to Export Your Code from Bolt.new

The ZIP download, GitHub sync, what happens to your database, how to run the project on your computer, and how mobile apps get to the stores.

The short answer: open your project on a computer, click the project title at the top left and choose Download to get a ZIP. For a copy that stays up to date, connect GitHub from the GitHub icon at the top right. The code is yours, but a Bolt database isn't in either export: save its rows separately, or claim it into your own Supabase account on a paid plan.

These steps come from Bolt's own help center, checked on October 30, 2026. GenVibe, mentioned at the end, is our product.

Download your Bolt project as a ZIP

  1. Open your project on a computer. Log in to bolt.new and open the project. Use a computer: the project menu on a phone has no Download option.
  2. Click the project title, then Download. Click the project title at the top left of the screen, then click Download. Bolt saves your project files as a ZIP.
  3. Unzip the file. Unzip the download into a folder you can find again.
  4. Run it on your computer. Install Node.js if you don’t have it. Open a terminal in the project folder and run npm install && npm run dev.

Or sync your project to GitHub

  1. In your project, click the GitHub icon at the top right, then Log in to GitHub.
  2. Click Authorize when GitHub asks to let StackBlitz, the company behind Bolt, use your account.
  3. Click Install the GitHub App and choose all repositories or only the ones you pick.
  4. Enter a name and click Create repository.

The repository starts private, on a main branch. From then on Bolt commits every change that doesn't break the project and checks GitHub every 30 seconds for edits made elsewhere. Only the project owner can connect it, and disconnecting is permanent: you can't reconnect the same project yourself.

Every way to get your work out of Bolt

WhatWhereWhat you get
DownloadProject title, top leftA ZIP of your project files, once
GitHub syncGitHub icon, top rightA private repository that updates with every change
Table exportDatabase icon, then a tableSelected rows as CSV or JSON
Claim the databaseDatabase icon, Advanced, ClaimThe database moved into your own Supabase account (Pro or Teams plan)

Bolt's help center lists no plan requirement for Download or GitHub. Claiming a database needs a paid plan and that you own the Supabase organization, so if you plan to cancel, claim it first. Read how to cancel Bolt for what else changes on Free.

Mobile apps: getting a Bolt app into the stores

Bolt builds mobile apps with Expo and lets you try them on your phone in Expo Go. The store build happens outside Bolt: download the code, install Expo's EAS command-line tool on a computer with Node.js and Git, log in to your Expo account, and build and submit with your own Apple Developer and Google Play accounts.

Frequently asked questions

Can I export my code from Bolt.new for free?

Bolt’s help center lists no plan requirement for the Download option or for GitHub sync, so both work on the Free plan as far as its docs say. Claiming your Bolt database into your own Supabase account is different: that needs a Pro or Teams plan.

How do I download my Bolt project?

Open the project on a computer, click the project title at the top left and choose Download. You get a ZIP of your project files. Unzip it and run npm install && npm run dev to start it locally.

Does the Bolt export include my database?

No. The ZIP and GitHub hold your code. A Bolt database stays hosted by Bolt: export the rows of each table as CSV or JSON, or, on Pro or Teams, claim the database into your own Supabase account so it lives under your name.

How do I connect Bolt to GitHub?

In your project, click the GitHub icon at the top right, then Log in to GitHub, authorize StackBlitz, install the GitHub App and choose the repositories it may use. Name a repository and click Create repository. Bolt then commits every working change for you.

Who owns the code I build with Bolt?

You do. Bolt’s help center says all code you create with Bolt and StackBlitz is your own, and you can use it for any legal purpose, including commercial ones.

How do I put a Bolt mobile app on the App Store or Google Play?

Bolt previews Expo apps in Expo Go, but the store build happens outside Bolt: you download the code, install Expo’s EAS command-line tool on your computer, and build and submit from there with your own Apple and Google developer accounts.
